If you are a citizen of the USA:
In order for you to work and travel in Australia, you will need to apply for a Working and Holiday Visa (subclass 462).
This visa allows you to work and travel throughout Australia for one year. Once in the country you have the option to acquire a second working holiday visa for an additional 12 months.
You’re eligible for this visa if you:
- Are between the ages of 18-30
- Are not planning on bringing a child with you
- Have $5000 AUD saved (about $3800 USD – for latest conversion rates go to XE)
- Have enough money saved to purchase a return ticket
- Have a high school or equivalency degree
- Have no outstanding debts to the Australian government
- Can speak English
- Meet the character and health requirements (no criminal history or major health problems)
– If you have a criminal history or major health problems, you can still apply and still be accepted depending on the situation
Other Details:
- Fee: $420 AUD (about $330 USD – for latest conversion rates go to XE)
- You can study for up to 4 months
- You are allowed to work for an employer for up to six months at a time
- You are responsible for all your health costs while you are in Australia. You will not be covered by Australia’s national health scheme
